On the farm
Cornwall has tons to offer just a short drive away from Old Lanwarnick. But sometimes you just want to stay at home and spend time together in the tranquil countryside away from the crowds. So, whether you want to spend your days getting muddy in the woods, meeting the animals, lounging in the hot tub after a massage, or all three, we have everything you need to make relaxing on your Cornish family holiday easy without having to leave the farm.

Fields and woods to explore
With 34 acres to explore from your doorstep, immerse yourself in the peace of the Cornish countryside without having to go anywhere. Take a map and head down through the fields to the Woodland Walk. Stop by the stream to watch the dappled sunlight falling through the trees. Depending on the time of year, chance upon patches of snowdrops, bluebells and primroses, or savour the red and gold leaves of autumn. Kids can play on the swings, hunt for Cornish faeries and build dens to fend off imaginary giants. And dogs can revel in all the scents of the countryside – safe and secure in our dog-friendly exercise fields. Then you can all wander back to your cottage with lungs full of fresh air and faces covered in smiles.

A chance to meet the animals
We may not be a working farm anymore, but there are still animals at Old Lanwarnick. Make friends with our resident runner ducks. See little (and not so little) ones’ faces light up at the chance to pet one of our chickens and come with us into the chicken coop to gather freshly-laid eggs. Children and adults will love watching the sheep and llamas in the neighbouring fields; in spring especially, see the lambs skipping and rabbits bounding in the sun. And make sure to say hello to the horses that come to meet you as you wander by.

Cornish wildlife to spot
At Old Lanwarnick you’ll catch sight of wildlife all around. Listen to the spectacular chorus of birds and see them close up as they flock around the bird feeders in the gardens. If you like birds of prey, catch buzzards circling overhead, and if you’re lucky, owls around the Pavillion at night. And it’s not just birds you’ll see at Old Lanwarnick. Deer have been known to share the gardens with you if you’re quiet. And while watching the baby swallows in their nests from the hot tub barn, you might also spot the rare fritillary butterfly among the buddleia outside.

Gardens to relax in
On sun-drenched terraces carved out of the south-facing hillside are pockets of vibrant, colourful planting, and benches where you can sit back and admire the view. Why not spend some time here relaxing in the sunshine and reading a book? Or bring a picnic to enjoy the view with the whole family. Listen to the sound of nature as birds sing, bees buzz and butterflies flit. Breathe in the scent of roses and wildflowers, and feel a sense of calm wash over you.

A pavilion for celebrations
Above the cottages, at the top of the hill, is our beautiful redwood pavilion. With a round dining table for all the family and comfy sofas from which to admire the astonishing views, this is the perfect spot for that special celebration or group meal with a difference. Pack a picnic and wander up through the paddock (we can provide transport for those who need it). Then pop a bottle of bubbly against a backdrop of rolling hills, knowing this will be a meal to remember.

A hot tub for all guests to enjoy
At the end of a long day of exploring, there’s no better feeling than sliding into a warm hot tub and lying back to gaze at the stars. You’ll find the hot tub in a converted barn just a few steps from your front door, right in the centre of the cottages. So why not pop on your swimming costume, get into your cosy bathrobe, and head over to wind down before bed? You can book your slot so you won’t be interrupted. And it’s enclosed on three sides, so no matter the weather, you’ll be toasty and warm while you take in the views across the valley and let the bubbles massage your cares away.
