There’s nothing quite like a long weekend in Cornwall. A little escape from the rigmarole of everyday life, and a chance to reset yourself with a breath of fresh country air. Here at Old Lanwarnick we welcome guests all year round, so when the summer holidays are over and you’re looking for a romantic, intimate weekend away with your loved ones, look no further.
A long weekend in Cornwall at Old Lanwarnick is the perfect way to relax and unwind from a busy summer. Surround yourself with rolling green hills and the sounds of nature as you settle into your home away from home for a few days. Whilst Cornwall is beautiful in the height of summer, it’s the autumn season when she really comes into her own. There is so much to see and do, so envisage yourself staying in one of our quaint little cottages as we take you through the ultimate weekend itinerary.

Friday
Arriving at Old Lanwarnick just after lunch, you are shown to your abode by a welcoming member of our team. We are a family run business, and treat every employee as such, ensuring that a warm and familiar greeting is extended to our guests. We want you to feel as at home as possible during your stay. Once you’ve settled in, a stretch of the legs feels needed, especially after a potentially long car journey!
With 34 acres to explore right on your doorstep, immerse yourself in the peace of the Cornish countryside with minimal hassle. Take a map and head down through the fields to the Woodland Walk. Stop by the stream to watch the dappled sunlight falling through the trees. Depending on the time of year, chance upon patches of snowdrops, bluebells and primroses, or savour the red and gold leaves of autumn. Kids can play on the swings, hunt for Cornish faeries and build dens to fend off imaginary giants. Dogs can revel in all the scents of the countryside, too, making the most of our safe and secure, dog-friendly exercise fields. Afterwards, you can all wander back to your cottage with lungs full of fresh air and faces covered in smiles.
After all that adventuring, an appetite is brewing, so why not take the short drive to the harbour town of Looe and dine at one of its many establishments? The Sardine Factory, The Old Sail Loft Restaurant, and the Smugglers Cott Restaurant are just a handful of amazing eateries at your disposal. We do recommend booking in advance, just in case!

Saturday
After the excitement of yesterday, and all that fresh Cornish air, you wake up rested and refreshed, ready for another day of exploration. If you’re the adventurous type, then Cornwall is the place for you, home to a plethora of watersports activities that are sure to get the blood pumping! You could rent kayaks by the hour from the cafe at Talland Bay, and head off to explore the rocky cliffs and secret coves that surround this inlet. You could also try your hand at SUP boarding, windsurfing, sailing, and powerboating at Polkerris Beach. Here you can hire equipment, and also partake in lessons. It also wouldn’t be a trip to Cornwall without trying your hand at surfing. On the north coast just 45 minutes away you’ll find Fistral Beach, the home of Cornish surfing, and a great opportunity to learn the sport from some of the best.
If you find yourself at Fistral, you could also stop by The Stable for some well-deserved wood-fired pizzas. Or you could try The Fish House Fistral, for a heartwarming meal that is sure to tantalise your tastebuds, before heading back to your home away from home at Old Lanwarnick.

Sunday
The only way to spend your last full day at Old Lanwarnick would be to enjoy a much-needed lie in after yesterday’s adventures. Our cottages are equipped with fully functioning kitchen/dining areas, so once you stock up on locally sourced produce from The Penhale Pantry, you can set about cooking up a hearty Cornish breakfast, refuelling for the day ahead.
With a tummy full of good food, and a night of rest and relaxation with just the birdsong for company, you are ready and raring to go explore a little more of what our coastline has to offer. With 433 miles of coastline and over 300 beaches to discover, whether you’re looking for secluded coves, vast stretches of sand, still turquoise waters or dramatic crashing waves you’ll be spoiled for choice in Cornwall. Try Talland Bay or East Looe Beach for sandy coves – each just a 13-minute drive from Old Lanwarnick – and spend the day building sandcastles, exploring rock pools and cooling off in the water. Or, for vast expanses of sand that your dog will love, it’s just 30 minutes to Par Sands Beach.
It wouldn’t be a Sunday in Cornwall without a classic roast dinner. Make your way down to Fowey in the afternoon and you’ll be overwhelmed with choice. The Ship Inn, Havener’s, and The Lugger are all great options for those wanting a roast fit for royalty.
Once you couldn’t possibly eat anymore, retire back to your cosy nook at Old Lanwarnick and enjoy a relaxing night in front of the tv, or playing board games with loved ones to round off your holiday.

Monday
When you first wake up, take a final walk through the ever-changing woodlands around Old Lanwarnick, a rejuvenating way to fill your lungs with that crisp autumnal air before a delicious breakfast overlooking the ocean. A little trip back to Looe will see you dining at The Lookout. A walk on the beach, dipping your toes into the ocean is a great way to end your long weekend in Cornwall on a high! Don’t forget to fill your suitcase with traditional Cornish pasties from The Cornish Bakery! These will definitely keep you going on your journey home, and for a few days after depending on how big your bag is. A great reminder of the perfect long weekend in Cornwall at Old Lanwarnick.
